Prayer to Lord Shiva

He is truth, beauty, auspiciousness, magnificence.

His head is bedecked with matted hair,

from which the Ganga flows in excellence.

He possesses the wisdom of fourteen worlds.

The three-eyed lord, with the trinity on His brow,

He is the destroyer of the three cities.

He holds the wisdom of the three worlds,

He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The serpent, sinuous, dances on His shoulders;

He is the Creator creating creation.

The beautiful, blue-throated lord

possesses the six attributes of a God.

A divine garland ornaments His neck.

He is the master of the sixty-four arts,

adorned by flowers that He frees from the cycle of life.

He bestows complete knowledge upon the ignorant;

He is the self-existent sign of the four ends of human existence;

He is draped in tiger-skin:

This is the beauty of Shiva.

Salutations to you, Lord Shiva.

You are the beginning of creation, You are the self-existent leader.

Bless us with the boon of destroying our ignorance.
