THE DEVĪ MĀHĀTMYAM

The Glory of the Goddess

Traditionally recited during Navaratri (nine nights), the Devi Mahatmyam, also known as Sapta-shati (seven hundred verses), is one of the oldest and deepest praises of the Divine Mother. In thirteen chapters it recounts how the Goddess was invoked to help the Devas (Gods) to destroy various Rakshasas (demons), such as Madhu, Kaitabha, Mahishasura, Shumbha and Nishumbha. This edition is for those devotees who wish to recite the original Sanskrit with its beautiful flowing rhythm and powerful vibrations and prefer Latin script to Devanagari.
