Christian spent several days in great distress, trying to convince his family and neighbours to come with him to be saved, but they would not listen to him.

Then, while he was out walking, Christian met an old man called Evangelist, who gave him a scroll on which it was written, “Fly from the wrath to come.”

Evangelist pointed the way to a door in the distance saying, “Do you see that little door?” Christian replied “No.”

Then Evangelist said, “Do you see the shining light?” “I think I do,” said Christian.

“Keep that light in your eye and go to it. There you will see the door that leads to the Celestial City.

At that door you can knock and be told what you should do next.”
